Birthdays

Tomorrow is Karli's birthday. I won't let on how old she is, but it represents the midpoint for our family of birthdays. Mine was last Thursday, and Oliver's is next Sunday. Unfortunately, we will spend the start of tomorrow in at PMH. Oliver is due for some sedation at 8.30am so that he can have another echocardiogram and ECG at 9.30. With any luck we will be out of there by lunchtime. Karli has a hair appointment in the afternoon, and then we are having some people around for a bbq to celebrate her extra year. I'm not sure how focussed she is on it, I think a lot of mum's attention is directed at her little man's party next Saturday.
Unfortunately he is likely to be on steroids and so will be quite ratty, but I suppose it will be a fitting way of summing up his first year. Karli and I have both had our moments this past week or so when we have been 'over it'. In some senses we feel justified in our self pity, but we also know that there are many others who have it much worse. Our little man is happy and playful - and is in fact quite a little gigglepot. As I have often said, without his NG tube, you wouldn't know he was sick. We are looking forward to celebrating the strength, courage and tenacity of our little man.

Happy birthday Karli (and to your fellas for last week and next week too!!) Great to see your gorgeous vids from last week to see you all with a smile on your face - last time I saw Oliver was pre-diagnosis when he was sick - great to see him going great guns now!
I hear you with the pity-party business. You are not alone and although they aren't pretty, it seems a fairly unavoidable invitation from time to time for all of us (I think I attended from time to time even when there weren't babies, but somehow it seemed more justifiable then perhaps?!)
anyhoo - enjoy your hair do, party and a sunny weekend to boot!

What a month October is for our family with all the birthdays!! But the one we most look forward to this year is our brave little man's first birthday next weekend and the party to celebrate. Such a pity about the steroids as normally Olly is a happy chappy (except for those teeth!)who is currently trying to work how he can best get on the move.
Although I see him smile and giggle it was still special to watch the videos; brings a tear to the eye.
Karli and Simon I can understand you wanting it to be "over", as I often fast forward to July (hopefully) when we can really celebrate and say bye to PMH for a while. But hang in there for you are blessed in the fact Oliver is getting stronger and developing as little boys do; once he's mobile you'll be so busy the time will fly. Enjoy all those positive times.
May I once again thank everyone for their love, support and messages on the blog. Our family unit has always been strong but is even more so now, and all our friends are so much appreciated. A special thanks to my gang of four - Sue, Val, Anne and Leonie. Love you lots xoxo
